Panel 1 — Convenient delivery

Berrit's fitting shop, June 24, 2230, at the end of Len's workday. A question card and pump collar sit beside Len's lunch cloth. Berrit offers the card.

BERRIT: Ask your mother over supper. Just this mark.

LEN: At her rate?

Panel 2 — Return to sender

Len slides the question card back toward the shop's account book. His closed lunch bundle remains separate. The collar stays at the shop.

BERRIT: You're already going home.

LEN: So is the question.

Panel 3 — A paid invitation

Berrit sets a tied wage pouch on a booking slip beside the account book. The advance is for one hour of Iva's instruction at her established old rate. Len waits before accepting it for delivery.

BERRIT: One hour tomorrow. Her rate, paid ahead.

LEN: I'll ask if she's free.

Panel 4 — Supper

At the household table before supper, Len passes Iva the advance and booking slip. The question card and collar are still at the shop. Iva accepts the appointment for the next morning. Two cups, bread and the lunch cloth make the table a place to eat.

IVA: Tomorrow after breakfast. And his question?

LEN: Still at work. I brought your pay.
