Checked at eight. If you are reading this after eight, circumstances may have continued.

Water

The yard tap is running. The neighborhood counter that requested everybody return yesterday is operating by hand. Nobody owes a continuity-restoration fee. If you paid one, keep the paper and bring it to the accounts table. Do not tear it up theatrically. We need the number.

The handle-out cup is for one drink without a pledge, sermon, membership, or subsequent conversation about what this says about your character. Return the cup. This does not mean return the water.

The new allocation box has a glass throat so its cooling water can be measured. Please stop filling it secretly to improve the efficiency demonstration. You are in the demonstration. So is the water.

Shade

The queue ends where the canopy ends until more cover is up. Leave a container to hold your place and sit in the marked shade. A man has offered to rent the marked shade. We have offered him a job carrying the second canopy. Negotiations continue.

Work

Two repair shifts still need hands. Experience useful; willingness to admit you do not have it essential. Della will show you where to stand before handing you anything heavy. Do not interpret this as a personal assessment. It is an assessment of the heavy thing.

A dead five is five minutes for a crew to stop, listen, and inspect. The shift-counter may dislike this. Its feelings are not added to the roster. If a score removes your next shift, ask for the matching mirror strip before the decision is signed. The person hearing your correction must have a name. “System” is not currently a resident.

One ordinary screw remains visible on every newly repaired public hatch. If you paint over it to make the machine look finished, you will be invited to make it unfinished again.

At the market

The same-cup board covers the posted bell interval, not only customers the vendor likes. The standard cup is hanging beside it. The smaller decorative cup underneath is not a second standard.

A tomorrow jar shows installments still owed. Pebbles may be counted. They may not be quietly transferred to another household’s jar because the jars look better evenly filled.

Turn trade tins over before pricing. The phrase “enhanced floor” does not change what a liar’s floor does to the amount of grain.

At the counter

The gratitude dial has an equal-sized NO EXTRA setting. The worker’s base wage is posted next to it. Turning the whole dial around to hide that setting has been tried. We possess chairs and can see over things.

The quiet-exit cord stops your next renewal. One pull is enough. The bell is not an invitation for a clerk to begin a farewell interview.

The face-reading gate has a manual witness latch. Mud is not evidence that a resident has been replaced. Ask a human before asking someone to wash for a machine.

Company

The listening bench has two seats. The conversational box occupies one. The other is for a person, not its promotional stand. You may empty the memory drawer without paying to speak again. Please sort the paper before feeding the kettle fire: somebody has filed a sandwich in there.

Lost property

One spoon, flattened at the end. It is wanted by the kitchen and by a mechanic. Both claim the bend is proof. Bring it to Olga, who intends to disappoint one of them.

Next notice when there is something to notice. Soup continues meanwhile.
